It’s your turn to be part of the movement

With a little more than 1 week to go to the Motsepe Foundation 2026 Race to Gender Equality, it’s your turn to be part of the movement. Taking place on Sunday, 15 March at the University of Pretoria Hillcrest Sports Campus, the Motsepe Foundation will mark ten years of advocacy through its Gender Equality, Wellness and Leadership (GEWAL) Centre.
In partnership with the City of Tshwane and Athletics Gauteng North, this event aims to raise awareness around gender gaps and symbolise the advocacy to commit to confronting conscious and unconscious bias in areas such as gender-based violence, unequal care and domestic labour, equal pay, access to capital, leadership representation, education, STEM, technology bias, and legal equality. Participants can now enter either the 21km, 10km or 5km fun run.
For 2026, the Motsepe Foundation has welcomed Caster Semenya and Qhawekazi Mazaleni as race and event ambassadors who will use their voices and platforms to inspire reflection and action on societal biases.
“This ten-year milestone recognises that while progress has been made, much more work remains to achieve true gender equality,” says Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe, Co-Founder and CEO of the Motsepe Foundation. “Sports are deeply embedded in our culture. In South Africa’s past, they were a platform to shift perceptions around racial inequality. For gender inequality, this is the cultural momentum needed to spark lasting changes for the decade ahead.”
Over the years, the Race to Gender Equality has engaged at least 5,000 participants, including men, women, and children, highlighting that enduring change requires all of our efforts.
