4 November 2025 – The South African Football Association (SAFA) is mourning the passing of Professor Rashid Small, the Chairperson of the Association’s Independent Audit and Risk Committee.

Professor Small passed away on Tuesday, 5 November 2025 and in accordance with his Muslim faith, he was laid to rest on the same day in Johannesburg.

Besides the immense work he did for SAFA, he was highly respected in the accountancy profession and as a lecturer in the academic field. Several tributes have been written about him, and he has been honoured for his leadership, wisdom, integrity, brilliance, poise and unwavering command of knowledge, among others.

SAFA President Dr Danny Jordaan said Small’s passing was a huge loss to his family, the Association and football at large. SAFA wished to send condolences to the family and may his dear soul rest in peace
