As a sermon was given it ended with handcuffs for Nigerian-born, South Africa-based televangelist Timothy Omotoso, who was arrested just after 5am this morning in East London, South Africa. His congregation may have been praying for deliverance, but immigration officials delivered something else.
The Department of Home Affairs’ immigration inspectorate, backed up by SAPS officers, swooped in just as Omotoso was wrapping up a service.
“The arrest is based on immigration matters. He will appear in court on Monday where everybody will know what charges he faces,” said SA National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola this morning.
