Players miss training as Royal AM’s UN Paid salaries

Late on Tuesday, The Witness confirmed that the club’s players had not attended training this week.

The team was informed that post-holiday sessions were postponed, leaving players in limbo.

Adding to the turmoil, Chippa United released a statement confirming that their Betway Premiership clash against Royal AM, scheduled for this weekend at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, had been postponed “with no given reason”.

The club has faced numerous publicised setbacks over the past two years.

These include a Fifa transfer ban for failing to pay R15 million owed to striker Samir Nurkovic, and a South African Revenue Service (SARS) investigation into Mkhize’s assets.

In November, SARS officials and police raided properties linked to Mkhize, who allegedly owes nearly R40 million in tax debt through her family trust.

SARS had signalled that further steps, including liquidation of the club, may be on the cards.

Meanwhile, Fifa is monitoring Royal AM’s continued defiance of its order to pay Nurkovic, with potential sanctions including docking points or liquidation.

According to the SABC, Royal AM recently requested the Premier Soccer League (PSL) to reschedule their trip to Gqeberha for the match against Chippa United.
