Celebrating Women in Music: Angelic Nkosazana Daughter Soothes The Nation

For the month of August and in celebration of Women’s Month in South Africa, The Official South African Charts put the spotlight on women in the charts. This week marks the final installment of the special coverage.

Nkosazana Daughter jumps 40 places into the Top 20 International Chart, with Mfazi Wephepha securing the #10 position this week. It is a significant and symbolic embodiment of what her career has been like since her debut in 2021. Nkosazana has shot up to the top, and her signature sound and voice have become unmissable. Mfazi Wephepha is another one of her many successful collaborations with Wanitwa Mos and Master KG that keep fueling her trajectory.

Taken from Makhelwane, their brand-new album, the laid-back Mfazi Wephepha featuring Big Zulu, is about an unpleasant wife who fails to make a home out of her house; she returns home in the early hours after a night out on the town and complains perpetually.

Looking at how Nkosazana has become a force to be reckoned with in Amapiano, there is no reason to complain. Born Nkosazana Nolwazi Kimberly Nzama and aged 23, she is one of Amapiano’s reigning princesses who consistently delivers hits whenever she steps into the studio. This year, Nkosazana has already impressed with Keneilwe featuring Dalom Kids, and before that, she has had a remarkable run on the Charts, working with some of the biggest names in Amapiano and featuring on memorable hits like Nana Thula by Kabza De Small and Maphorisa, also featuring Njelic, Young Stunna, and Xolani Guitars; Dali Nguwe by Wanitwa Mos and Master KG, also featuring Basetsana and Obeey Amor; Sofa Silahlane by Wanitwa Mos, Master KG, and Lowsheen; Seduce Me by Daliwonga; Sbindi Uyabulala by Prince Kaybee, also featuring Masuda; and Amaphutha by Master KG and Lowsheen, also featuring Murumba Pitch.

Listening to her discography, it’s easy to see how music fans fell in love with Nkosazana. It’s her angelic and soothing voice, delivered effortlessly and with so much sincerity. She has raked in millions of streams across digital streaming platforms and millions of views on YouTube for her music videos and has performed across the African continent and the world. There is more to come from this daughter of the soil.

Worth noting this week is the new entrant in the International Top 20: the zesty Too Much by Skhandaworld, K.O, and Nasty C debuts at #17, flying the hip-hop flag as Tshwala Bam by Tito M and Yupee featuring S.N.E and EeQue falls out of the International Top 20 after a 26-week-long run, now sitting at #21.
