GOLDEN BOOT RACE

From the onset, Pirates asserted control in the early phases of the game, while their opponents struggled to counter the dominance of the Sea Robbers, offering little threat on the attack.

Ten minutes before halftime, the Buccaneers capitalised on their dominance as the energetic Thabiso Monyane penetrated the box, setting up Tshegofatso Mabasa for a simple finish from close range.

Mabasa continued to make an impact, extending the lead shortly after when Baraka Gamba Majogoro handled the ball in the box, allowing Mabasa to convert confidently from the penalty spot. With an impressive first half behind them, Bucs headed into halftime with a 2-0 lead.

In the second half, the Chilli Boys looked to establish a rhythm in their play, finding themselves spending more time in Pirates’ half of the field in search of a goal.

Nevertheless, Pirates successfully maintained their lead and secured maximum points, bringing them closer to second-placed Stellenbosch in the PSL standings. Stellies settled for a 0-0 draw against AmaZulu, placing the Buccaneers just one point behind the Cape Winelands side. Meanwhile, Chippa occupy 11th position.

Mabasa deserves credit for maintaining his goal-scoring streak in the league, securing a brace that adds to his season tally. With 15 goals so far, he now leads the PSL Golden Boot race.
