ENGEN CHAMPS AMABASSADOR MASHEGO REFLECTS ON WOMEN CHAMPIONS LEAGUE TRIUMPH

Ever popular Engen Knockout Challenge and Engen Champ of Champs ambassador, Lehlogonolo ‘Hlogi’ Mashego is basking in the glory of being crowned an African champion, following Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies recent victory at the 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League in Cote d’Ivoire.

The Sundowns Ladies winger, who travelled across the country this year as a proud ambassador of the 21st edition of the Engen Knockout Challenge, shared her excitement with Engen Sport on what it feels like to be an African champion and said she hoped that this would inspire young girls who participate in the Engen Knockout Challenge in the next few years.

“It’s surreal being called an African champion. We have worked hard at it. We continued to be dependable and driven. I want to urge young girls to continue believing and make use of tournaments such as the Engen Knockout Challenge and Engen Champ of Champs to harness their skills and one day achieve such accolades,” reflected the EKOC Ambassador.

Congratulating Mashego on her team’s historic achievement, External Communications Manager at Engen, Gavin Smith said her accomplishment was a momentous one and hoped that it would inspire the next generation of footballers in the Engen Knockout Challenge to reach for the stars.

“What ‘Hlogi’ has accomplished is truly inspirational. To make it to the final of an elite African competition three times in a row and win it twice is an incredible feat. She and her teammates are genuinely making a significant contribution to women’s football and as Engen, it is encouraging to have one of our ambassadors at the forefront of such a momentous achievement. We believe this can serve as inspiration to young girls to make use of tournaments such as the Engen Knockout Challenge as a stepping stone to stardom,” commented Smith.

The Engen Knockout Challenge celebrated its 21st anniversary in 2023, with a significant increase in the women’s teams that participated in the tournament – proving again that Engen continues to be at the forefront of an inclusive approach to youth football developme
