JMPD officer killed by police

A Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) officer was shot and killed during a shootout with members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) outside her Dobsonville home in Gauteng on Saturday evening.

According to Phaladi Shuping, the spokesperson for the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID), the deceased was the mother of a suspected reckless driver, who was being chased by the police after failing to heed a call to stop.

“It is alleged that the police officers were on patrol when they saw a car that was driving recklessly, and they tried to stop it,” said Shuping.

“The driver did not stop, and the police pursued, until it [the car] stopped at a certain house in Monaisa Street in Dobsonville.”
