World Children’s Day

KFC, who have been a proud title sponsor of the KFC Mini-Cricket programme for 15 years and has seen children graduate from the grassroot development programme to become professional cricket players, supports the United Nations (UN) uplifting and heartwarming theme that emphasizes the need of protecting children’s rights. This theme is aligned to the reason why KFC is involved in the Mini-Cricket programme – to ‘level the playing fields’ and give every child equal opportunity to play the sport and identify their potential.

Through the partnership with Cricket South Africa (CSA), KFC has provided young cricket enthusiasts an opportunity to shine on the field, showcasing their skills and passion for the game. The KFC Mini-Cricket programme has become a breeding ground for future stars.  In a society where inclusivity and breaking down barriers are valued, the KFC Mini – Cricket programme is a remarkable effort that is making a real difference.

With a reach that has impacted the lives of over 2.5 million children, this incredible platform is becoming a steppingstone for a more inclusive society. What sets this initiative apart is its intentionality. It goes beyond simply talking about inclusiveness and takes action to make it a reality. It recognises that every child deserves a chance to thrive, regardless of their background or circumstances.

KFC Marketing Manager: Brand & Purpose, Andra Nel expressed her sentiment about celebrating World Children’s Day “Within the realm of the KFC Mini Cricket programme, we have the profound opportunity to provide children with more than just a platform for cricket. It is a chance to nurture their confidence as they interact with their peers, truly embodying the powerful message of ‘Levelling the Playing Field’. On this World Children’s Day, let us celebrate the transformative impact we can create together. The KFC Mini-Cricket Programme has nurtured countless graduates who now grace the Provincial teams and proudly represent South Africa in prestigious tournaments. Their journey is a testament to the power of passion and dedication. Amidst the global celebration of World Children’s Day, let us embrace the significance of nurturing young minds, for they hold the key to shaping a generation that will forge remarkable individuals in the tapestry of our future.”

CSA Head of Cricket Pathways, Edward Khoza, said;

“At the height of cricket, where the ICC Cricket World Cup mesmerizes fans globally, there is a journey of young, aspiring cricketers watching through the KFC Mini-Cricket programme.

“Their dreams mirror the essence of the sport and, in the spirit of World Children’s Day, we are reminded of the resilience and boundless potential residing within each child.

“The collaboration between CSA and KFC continues to be an inspiring testament to the transformative power of cricket, where access and inclusion turn dreams into reality and empowering the future stars of the South African national teams,” said Khoza.
