POLOKWANE CITY BEAT SUPERSPORT

SSU out of Carling Knockout Cup

SuperSport United have been knocked out of the Carling Knockout Cup competition’s Last 16 round.

The match was played at the TUT Stadium in Tshwane on Sunday night.

Matsatsantsa created a lot of scoring chances in the first half as forward Etiosa Ighodaro’s well directed header went wide of the right post in the 12th minute.

In the 19th minute it was still Matsatsantsa pushing for the lead as Bradley Grobler’s grass-cutter hit the upright after receiving excellent pass from Phathutshedzo Nange.

The visitors got a chance that they couldn’t miss as Nange’s pass was intercepted and ex-United player Appollis put his team in the lead in the 21st minute.

Matsatsantsa kept on pushing as Grobler’s shot was easily saved by City’s keeper in the 29th minute.

Grant Margeman also whipped in excellent deliveries on the right as he released a pinpoint pass to Ighodaro whose header sailed over the post.

City netted their second goal as the match went into the break with 2-0 to the Polokwane based outfit.

At the beginning of the second half coach Gavin Hunt made four substitutions with veteran Onismor Bhasera coming on for Abdulrazak Hamza, Gape Moralo replaced Nange, Terence Dzvukamanja came off the bench for Ighodaro and Lyle Lakay made way for Keenan Bezuidenhout.

The introduction of the four players made some promising changes as Bezuidenhout hit the upright with a powerful shot just outside the box in the 52nd minute.

In the 57th minute Gamphani Lungu’s cross from the right was tipped by City’s keeper.

It was not United’s day as City netted their third goal due to miscommunication at the back.

In the 75th minute City scored their fourth goal as Hunt made some more changes with Tenda Matodzi coming on for Lungu.
