SPURS & POLOKWANE CITY BAG MAXIMUM POINTS ON MONDAY

 Monday’s round of Motsepe Foundation Championship fixtures, Polokwane City and Cape Town Spurs moved up the log standings after convincing home victories.

Polokwane City hosted Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in their latest league fixture and subsequently recorded their second win in succession.

The game was tied at 0-0 at the break, as both sides produced little action in the opposition penalty areas. Rise and Shine eventually came out on top and managed to record a 2-1 victory.

Polokwane City now occupy second spot on the Motsepe Foundation Championship table, just two points behind Hungry Lions who lead the way at the top.

Over in the Mother City, Cape Town Spurs got back to winning ways after recording a 3-1 win against La Masia at the Athlone Stadium. The Urban Warriors were up for it from the get go and took the lead in the 7th minute courtesy of a close range effort from Clayton Daniels.

In a series of significant events, Spurs were awarded a penalty half-way through the first half, which was saved by the La Masia goalkeeper. Not long thereafter, Morne Nel received

a straight red after a rash challenge on one of the opposition players in the middle of the park.

With 10 minutes left on the clock, striker Therlo Moosa added his name to the scoresheet and put Spurs in the driving seat. Masia left the Athlone stadium with a consolation goal, after being awarded a penalty in stoppage time.

The victory meant that Spurs moved up to 7th spot on the log, with 12 points earned after eight games played
