Gauteng Provincial government ready to host COSAFA Women’s Championship 


The Gauteng Provincial Government (GPG) is proud to be the host of the 2023 COSAFA Women’s Championship tournament from the 4-15 October 2023 at 3 different venues across the province.  

The tournament will see 12 teams vying to be the COSAFA champions. Participating teams are Angola, Botswana, Comoros, Eswatini, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe. 

MEC for Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation Morokane Mosupyoe, has welcomed the games and extended her well wishes to the teams.  

“Gauteng is pleased to be the host of 2023 HOLLYWOODBETS COSAFA Women’s Championship being held in the Home of Champions, Gauteng for the first time. Once more this is evidence of the continued excellence of Gauteng in successfully attracting and hosting key national and international events.  

“Having the games playing here in Gauteng aligns well with our commitment to supporting and growing women’s sports across all codes.     

Extending her well wishes to the players, MEC Mosupyoe said; “The Gauteng government also extends its wishes to the athletes. Your hard work and passion have brought you to this prestigious stage. May each match showcase your talent, sportsmanship, and resilience,”. 

The MEC has called on fans including young girls to attend the games in numbers and be part of the spectacle to crown the best national women’s team in Southern Africa.  

“To the fans and supporters, your enthusiasm and encouragement play a crucial role in boosting the spirits of the players. Your unwavering support is a driving force behind the success of this tournament, may we show up in our stadium and cheer for our teams,” MEC Mosupyoe added.
