Gauteng School Sport to host Mini Netball World ahead of the international tournament

As anticipation builds for the upcoming 2023 Netball World Cup, Gauteng will, on 06 May 2023, host the provincial Schools Mini Netball World Cup Festival.

The exciting tournament will feature 16 teams (schools), representing all the teams taking part in the World Cup.

Taking place at the Elkah Sports Complex in Soweto on Saturday, 6 May 2023, the tournament is a celebration of the world cup that will be hosted in Cape Town from 28 July 06 August, building awareness and excitement for the upcoming games and encouraging Gauteng citizens to support the SPAR Proteas who will be representing South Africa at the global championships. It is now the time to bring back the memories and excitement in celebrating the 2023 Netball World Cup will be held in South Africa.

The tournament consists of 16 teams from across the Gauteng province, from inclusive of Learner with Special Educational Needs (LSEN). Each school team will represent one of the countries that will be participating in the Netball World Cup.

Selected players from the tournament will have the opportunity to attend some of the World Cup games of in Cape Town in July and August.

The Gauteng Schools Netball Mini World Cup further promotes the participation and development of the girl child in sports from an early age, particularly those from schools within the Township, Informal Settlements and Hostels (TISH), a key focus area of the Gauteng Provincial Government.

Furthermore, the Mini World Cup festival will serve as the official announcement for the Gauteng leg of the 2023 Netball World Cup trophy tour that commences later this month.
