2022 MTN8 Champions – Orlando Pirates give back to Little Rose Centre through the MTN8 Goals for Charity Initiative
MTN together with the Premier Soccer League and the reigning MTN8 Champions, Orlando Pirates today donated food parcels and personal hygiene products worth R80 000 to Little Rose Centre through the MTN8 Goals for Charity initiative.
Little Rose Centre was founded in 1993 by Nomayeza “Ouma” Majola as a playgroup with 40 children between the ages of one and six, to promote early childhood development. Four years later, the centre was officially registered as a non-profit organisation with the department of Social Services.
Today, the centre accommodates approximately 140 children. One hundred babies and toddlers attend the creche and 20 have found shelter at the centre, while others come in the mornings and after school for meals, homework assistance, and leisure time activities.
Little Rose Centre Founder, Nomayeza Majola commented, “today was a day well spent with football stars, MTN, and the Premier Soccer League. We appreciate the contribution made and all those who took time out of their schedules to spend it with us. Every day we endeavour to give our children the best support we can with our different programmes, and we rely on the support we receive from different organisations such as MTN for contributions as well as individuals who take their time to volunteer”.
Since its inception in 2018, the MTN8 Goals for Charity initiative has become a vital element of the MTN8 cup tournament due to its impact on all the communities that the tournament touches. During the MTN8 tournament, each goal scored within the regulated time of the match carries a prize value of R20 000. To date, the initiative has donated food, sporting material and equipment, school and learning supplies, personal hygiene items, and office equipment worth R1.6 million to 18 organisations across the country.
In 2022 an amount of R300 000 was raised through the initiative, based on the 15 goals that were scored during the tournament. MTN has taken the decision to top them amount up with an additional R200 000 to make it a total of R500 000. The remaining funds will be distributed to six NGOs across the country.
