Global Citizen Recognised for the First Time asOne of the Coolest Campaigns at Sunday Times GenNext Awards

Johannesburg, South Africa – October 2, 2023 – Global Citizen, a leading international organisation dedicated to ending extreme poverty, has been named, for the first time, one of the coolest campaigns targeted at the youth market at the prestigious Sunday Times GenNext Awards. The annual awards ceremony, held in Johannesburg, announced the coolest brands as voted by South Africa’s youth on September 20, 2023.

The Sunday Times GenNext survey is widely regarded as the foremost barometer of what South Africa’s youth find trendy and inspiring. Its findings hold significant value for brand management, advertising, and marketing professionals seeking to connect with the younger demographic.

Global Citizen’s recognition at the Sunday Times GenNext Awards highlights the organisation’s impactful work with youth and young women in Africa. As part of its commitment to creating positive change, Global Citizen has launched various programs and initiatives focused on empowering women and girls across the continent.

One such program is the Global Citizen Fellowship Programme powered by BeyGOOD, which provides young Africans with the tools and resources to drive social change within their communities. Through this fellowship, Global Citizen aims to nurture the next generation of leaders and activists who can tackle the pressing challenges faced by their communities.

Additionally, Global Citizen is renowned for its flagship event, the Global Citizen Festival, which brings together renowned artists, world leaders, and activists to raise awareness and funds for critical causes. This annual festival serves as a powerful platform to address the major inequalities affecting women and girls in Africa, amongst others.

To combat gender-based violence, Global Citizen has spearheaded the TAKE ACTION NOW campaign For Girls & Women, raising awareness and mobilising resources to tackle this pervasive issue head-on. The organisation recognizes that gender-based violence perpetuates gender inequality and restricts the potential of women and girls.

Global Citizen also acknowledges the barriers that limit girls’ access to education in Africa, including poverty, early marriage, cultural norms, and inadequate infrastructure. By focusing on education, Global Citizen strives to equip girls with the knowledge, skills, and economic opportunities necessary to break the cycle of gender inequality.
